About
Portmeirion is an extraordinary architectural fantasy, an Italian-style village created between 1925 and 1975 on a private peninsula in Snowdonia. Architect Clough Williams-Ellis assembled a collection of colourful buildings, follies, and rescued architectural fragments into a harmonious whole that demonstrates how development need not destroy beauty. The village gained fame as the setting for the 1960s TV series The Prisoner. Subtropical gardens flourish in the mild coastal climate, while woodland walks and spectacular estuary views complete the magical atmosphere.
