About
The New Forest is one of England's largest remaining areas of unenclosed pasture land, heathland, and ancient woodland. Wild ponies, cattle, and deer roam freely across 220 square miles of protected landscape, creating scenes that have changed little since William the Conqueror declared it a royal hunting forest in 1079. Miles of cycling and walking trails wind through ancient oak and beech woodlands, past picturesque villages with thatched cottages. The forest supports rare wildlife including all six British reptile species, while the charming towns of Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, and Beaulieu provide excellent bases for exploration.
