Margate has reinvented itself from faded Victorian resort to hip creative hub, catalysed by the opening of the Turner Contemporary gallery in 2011. The historic Dreamland amusement park has been lovingly restored with vintage rides and regular events. Margate's long sandy beach, tidal pool, and elegant Georgian architecture are complemented by a growing number of independent cafés, vintage shops, and art galleries in the atmospheric old town.
