About
Cardigan is an ancient market town at the lowest bridging point of the River Teifi, once an important port before the river silted up. The impressive castle, birthplace of the first eisteddfod in 1176, has been restored and houses a heritage centre and restaurant. The traditional covered market operates twice weekly, while independent shops line the Georgian streets. The town serves as a gateway to the Pembrokeshire Coast and Cardigan Bay, where dolphins and seals are frequently spotted. The Welsh Wildlife Centre at nearby Cilgerran offers excellent wildlife watching and walking.
