About
Bakewell sits in the heart of the Peak District, a perfect base for exploring both the limestone White Peak and dramatic gritstone Dark Peak landscapes. The town is famous for Bakewell Pudding, a sweet tart created by accident at the Rutland Arms Hotel in the 1860s. The five-arched medieval bridge over the River Wye leads to the town centre with its Monday market, held since 1254, and attractive stone buildings. Nearby Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are among England's finest stately homes.
