About
Aldeburgh has long attracted artists, musicians, and writers to its remote shingle beach and atmospheric Suffolk setting. Benjamin Britten founded the Aldeburgh Festival here in 1948, now centred on the stunning Snape Maltings concert hall in converted Victorian buildings beside the River Alde. The town's seafront is lined with colourful houses and fishing boats selling fresh catch, while the Moot Hall stands alone on the shingle having once been at the town centre before coastal erosion. Excellent restaurants and galleries complement the cultural offering.
